If you received a letter from Reclaim Georgiasaying the State of Georgia is holding unclaimed property in your name, you are right to be skeptical. The instinct to verify is the same instinct that protects you from real scams — so let’s walk through how to verify our letter independently in under five minutes.
The short version
Yes, the letter is real. Reclaim Georgia is registered with the Georgia Department of Revenue as a Claimant Designated Representative (CDR #202400088), the legal designation Georgia uses to authorize companies to help residents recover unclaimed property. Our LLC is registered with the Georgia Secretary of State (Control # 26062343).
But you don’t have to take our word for any of that. Every claim we make about ourselves can be verified through public records that you can search yourself in about three minutes.
How to verify the letter in three steps
Step 1: Confirm Reclaim Georgia is a registered CDR
Georgia DOR maintains a public registry of every company authorized to act as a Claimant Designated Representative. Email ucp.cdr.registration@dor.ga.gov and ask whether Reclaim Georgia LLC, CDR #202400088, is currently registered. They will confirm by email, typically within one business day.
You can also see our full credentials, including the DOR confirmation date and expiration date, on our credentials page.
Step 2: Confirm the LLC exists with the GA Secretary of State
Visit ecorp.sos.ga.gov/BusinessSearch and search for Reclaim Georgia LLC or control number 26062343. The state record will show the registered LLC, its formation date (2026-03-20), and its registered agent. This is the same public-records system used to verify any business operating in Georgia.
Step 3: Verify the claim independently on the state portal
The single most important step. Go to gaclaims.unclaimedproperty.com — the official State of Georgia unclaimed property search — and search for your own name. If your property is listed there, the letter we sent you is accurate. If it isn’t, we made a mistake; contact us and we will correct our records.
Reclaim Georgia uses the same Georgia DOR database that powers the official portal. We do not invent or fabricate claims — we identify property the state is already publishing in its public records and reach out to the rightful owner.
What a legitimate Reclaim Georgia letter looks like
Every letter we send should include:
- Our CDR registration number (202400088) and the DOR contact line for verification
- The specific property type and dollar amount the state is holding for you
- Our 30% maximum fee disclosure— Georgia law caps recovery fees at 30% and we always state ours up front
- A signed letter from Lucius Cauthorn, CEO, with our business address and phone number
- A right of rescission— you can cancel the agreement within 7 calendar days of signing, no questions asked, no fee
If any of those are missing, or if the letter is asking you to wire money, pay a fee up front, or share your Social Security number by phone, that is not from us. See our how to spot a scam guide for the warning signs.
What Reclaim Georgia will never do
- Never ask for an up-front fee. Our 30% comes out of your check only if you actually receive money. No recovery, no fee, ever.
- Never demand a wire transfer, gift card, or cryptocurrency. Real unclaimed-property recovery uses paper checks issued by the State of Georgia.
- Never ask for your Social Security number by phone or text. Sensitive information is exchanged only through the secure DOR portal or by signed, mailed paperwork.
- Never pressure you to sign immediately. The state holds unclaimed property indefinitely — there is no deadline. Take whatever time you need to verify us.
What if I don’t want to use Reclaim Georgia?
That is completely fine, and we tell you so directly on the letter. The State of Georgia accepts free, direct claims from any rightful owner at gaclaims.unclaimedproperty.com. You do not need our help — we simply make the process easier for people who don’t have the time or don’t want to deal with the paperwork.
If you’d rather file yourself with a guided packet, we also sell a $19 Self-File Kitthat walks you through filing your own claim with no recovery fee. And if you just want to search first to see what’s out there, our free search uses the same database the state portal does.
